A tax agent's job is to prepare and file tax returns and provide advice and guidance to taxpayers about how to meet their tax obligations or receive refunds of any overpaid tax. A tax agent works closely with but is otherwise independent from the Inland Revenue Department (IRD). To provide this service the agent/agency must be registered with IRD and must have proper authority to represent each taxpayer before accessing any of their IRD account details.

El trabajo de un agente de impuestos es preparar y declarar las devoluciones y asesorar y orientar a los contribuyentes sobre cómo cumplir sus obligaciones o cómo recibir devolución de cualquier pago indebido. Un agente de impuestos trabaja cercano al Inland Revenue Department (IRD), pero no forma parte del mismo, es independiente. Para ofrecer este servicio el agente/agencia debe estar registrado en el IRD y debe tener la autoridad adecuada para representar a cada contribuyente antes de acceder a cualquier detalle de su cuenta de IRD.
